Book Review: The Book of Doors

June Blackburn, the current president, has read and reviewed another of the books at our library. These short book reviews help members discover books and other resources in our library. Library resources are available for members to take home to read or reference in the rooms.

The Book of Doors by Anne Richards

If you were a teenager or in your early 20s in Brisbane in the late 1960s and early 1970s, this book will bring back many memories.  Written from a University student’s point of view, it describes the political and police corruption of the Joh Bjelke-Petersen period in Queensland.

The numerous demonstrations against our country’s involvement in Vietnam, racial and sex discrimination, the violence of the Springbok Tours and much more are detailed by a young woman who became involved in all these actions.

This book is very intense at times but quite funny at other times.
