A past member, Lorrie Barzdo, always inspired members of the group to write down their stories. Then these stories, then become a pathway for future generations to begin their family history journey. There are criteria to help novice and experienced group members write their stories. As Lorrie always said “you can write about anything … just write …”. She bequeathed funds to “encourage” members to contribute their stories, which experienced members of the group judged.
The 2020 Lorrie Barzdo Writers Award was won by Kay Middlemiss for her story “Pure Velvet-Gentle on the hands!” The Novice Section encourages members who have not previously entered a story in the award, which was won by two stories. Sue Rae with her story “Polesden Lacey Connection” and Christine Howard with her story “A Mother’s Day Gift”. The winning article is printed in the club’s quarterly “Clipper “ Journal and is widely circulated to family history groups around Australia and globally.
