Learn about your local history
Caloundra Family History is celebrating National Family History Month in August 2022 by hosting a conference to discover more about the history of Caloundra. The conference, called “Snapshots of Caloundra’s History”, gives an insight into our heritage before and after European Settlement on the “North Coast”, now called the Sunshine Coast.
The program commences with registration and morning tea. This is followed by Welcome to Country and a talk on Life for the Traditional Owners before European Settlement with First Nations Speaker, Lyndon Davis. Next is Jill Henderson with Early European Settlement in the Caloundra area. This will be followed by an interview with a local identity, Ivan Maltman by Ralph Gray.
Then a break for lunch. (Both morning tea & lunch will have gluten-free options available.)
After lunch, the president of Caloundra Family History, June Blackburn talks about Caloundra History Walks and Caloundra Family History. Finally, Caloundra in World War II including Bribie Island is presented by Ian Edwardson.
