“My Family were from Continental Europe – Will DNA testing help me? European FH and DNA”
DNA testing has become very popular with frequent advertisements inducing people to test to find their ethnic origins. As genealogists and family historians, we know that the ethnicity estimates are interesting but can have a high level of uncertainty. Although DNA testing has not been well received in many parts of continental Europe, this presentation examines how it can assist the researcher.
Eric has been researching his German families from Westfalen, Schleswig-Holstein, Pommern and Westpreußen since 1986. He has written two books to assist those researching their German families: ‘Locating your German ancestor’s place of origin’ and ‘Researching in German civil and church records’, both published by Unlock the Past. ¹
The coordinator is Sue Schott.
The Germany Interest Group meets 1st Thursday of the month from 1 pm to 3 pm at the CFH rooms.
