Guest Speaker: Matthew Wengert, “When Spanish Flu Came To Queensland”.
Bio: John Oxley Library Fellow, Historian & Author of ‘City in Masks’ and ‘Within/Without These Walls’.
This very topical presentation will cover an overview of the ‘Spanish Flu’ pandemic, its connections with WW1, Australia’s early preparations for the epidemic, and the return of the AIF veterans. He will also talk about Australia’s response including the closing of the Queensland border. We hope he will share his thoughts on the comparative and contrastive aspects of the ‘Spanish Flu’ and ‘COVID-19’ epidemics. There will be some time for questions.
