Fisher Community Awards Presentation Evening
In late June 2021 Roz, Fran, and Valerie (L-R) attended The Fisher Community Awards because Caloundra Family History Reserach Inc was a finalist in the Fisher Senior Community Group of the Year section of the Fisher Community Awards. The Fisher Awards have been designed to highlight and celebrate the outstanding contribution of individuals and organisations throughout the Fisher electorate.
While our section was won by Little Village Theatre it was a tough competition that included the Peachester History Committee. There were many other deserving individuals and groups represented by the finalists and winners on the night.
Andrew Wallace MP, Federal Member for Fisher, presented certificates in the formal part of the event while a summary of the submission was read out to the audience.
The Caloundra Family History submission
Caloundra Family History Research Inc. has always made a difference to its members by helping them to research their family history especially through speaker presentations, eight interest group meetings per month, and access to resources such as books, computers, databases, and more at the rooms. This all could have stopped in a crash when Covid-19 hit and restrictions were introduced. Plus, there was a need to be extra careful with most members being at a vulnerable age.
Instead, the CFH group jumped into action. All the meetings were moved online via Zoom. Instructions on how to join meetings, how to run a meeting were prepared and distributed. When needed, members trained many individuals over the phone. Headsets, cameras, and microphones were located. There was hardly a session missed while it was being set up. Along with the regular meetings a two-weekly meeting, Share, Show, Tell & Chat via Zoom was started so that members feeling isolated could stay in touch.
When the rooms reopened for research CFH put in place a COVID-19 plan to keep visiting members safe.
Caloundra Family History Committee and members have made a difference in 2020 and continue in 2021.
