Meeting Cancelled
After a lot of thought, we have decided to cancel the general meeting on Thursday because of the risks associated with the Covid 19 virus now spreading around the world.
The government has been advising a practice of “social distancing” for some days now, increasingly tighter restrictions coming into place and the constantly changing recommendations we felt that it would be extremely unwise to go ahead with the meeting where a lot of people would be in close proximity.
Save the date for our General Meeting where Matthew Wengert will be talking about when the Spanish Flu came to Queensland.
Bio: Matthew Wengert has worked as a researcher, tutor, and video editor at two Brisbane universities, and as a researcher for independent documentaries. In 2019 he was a joint recipient of the John Oxley Library Fellowship with Louise Martin-Chew for ‘Designs-Details-Devils: A Visual History of Queensland’s Government Printing Office 1862-2013’.
As an author, Matthew has had 19 works published.
Topic: “When Spanish Flu Came To Queensland”
Meetings
Monthly meetings commence at 1.30 pm on the third Thursday with a guest speaker followed by a short break when tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. The meeting then resumes with the general business of the group.
Visitors are always welcome to attend any meeting with a view to joining the group. Disabled access to the meeting room is available.
Speakers
One of the very popular features of our monthly meetings is the visiting speaker.
We are always looking for new and interesting speakers. If you have a story to share or know of a speaker who would be able to visit our rooms to share their story or their research, please contact us.
