Caloundra Family History has a talk and general meeting for the months of January to November. It is held on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Currently, it is being held by Zoom.
The talk in March will be given by Sharn White, a professional Genealogist and House Historian, having studied at a number of accredited universities and other courses, following a background in teaching. Sharn has been researching family history for over 25 years. Her work includes researching traditional Family History as well as Genetic Genealogy.
Topic: Your House has a History – Researching Your Queensland House – Who’s been sleeping in your house?
Unravelling the history of your Queensland home and the people who have lived in it, will give you a meaningful appreciation of your house and the locality in which you live. Using a case study of a home in Paddington, Brisbane, Sharn will show you how to research and document a house history. This includes recognising significant features of your home such as its age and its architectural style. You will discover where to find records about your house and the land which it occupies.
The genealogical history of your home will become fascinating when you discover who built your house, the history of its ownership and what changes the house has undergone over time. The unique story of your home will spring to light as you unearth engaging stories of the people who have lived within its walls.
Using resources such as Land Records, Maps, Queensland Almanacs and Directories, Council Records, Local History Societies, Ancestry.com, Newspapers, Photographs and Google, you will discover how to investigate and document a compelling history of your home and its occupants.
